Three Wins.

Three-minute read. Or less.

Welcome to week sixteen of Three Wins in this format, where I walk you through my process of launching an online course in 2024.

Even if you are not launching an online course, this will help you think about whatever you will launch.

This coming week is a bit unusual.

Downing Street on Tuesday for lunch.

Online Micro Blogs Beta test bonus lesson on Wednesday.

Dublin for the rugby on Saturday.

This evening was a sauna, plunge and then some chill time.

  1. Practice needs reflection.

A short video clip worth watching is of legendary Herb Magee explaining to a group of young kids what he did to become a world-class shooter in basketball. He would take 500 shots every day. I mean, every day.

Magee also marked down the spot of the rim that every miss hit. Was it short? Long? Right? Left? He wanted to know to figure out what he did wrong, correct it and improve moving forward.

That’s how deliberate practice works; you have to reflect and learn.

I now write down in my diary each Micro Blog I write and why it was a hit or a miss.

A win.

Legendary coach, Herb Magee, on what he did to become a world class shooter “When I was a kid I would shoot 500 shots every day. When I missed I would go to my book and write not that I missed, but WHERE I missed. When you miss there is a reason.” #detailsmatter #basketballtraining #philadelphiauniversity #thomasjeffersonuniversity #basketballtiktok

  1. Digital needs analogue.

My copy of The Brilliance Breakthrough arrived by UPS.

It was a hardback copy. Plus, it came with a workbook. The copy on Amazon was £2,500. No workbook. So this was a nice surprise. And it was only $260.

As I set about reading the book, I am reading one chapter at a time. Each chapter comes with an exercise in the workbook. So, I am slowing my learning down so I can let it sink in.

It made me think that Micro Blogs needs to come with a workbook, and the book. The slower our learning, the better our retention.

Most online courses don’t offer a physical workbook. I think that is a big miss.

This book arriving with a workbook increased my certainty of how important it is to have time on the task, which is what exercises are.

A win.

  1. I didn't see this coming.

I did a lot of research on brain science in order to make a 10-minute system easy to do because what is easy to do is what we keep doing. No brainer.

The first exercise in the workshop is called the clearing. It is based on 95% of our thoughts today are the same as yesterday. Endless loops.

To break the loop, I get people in the workshop to write everything that they can think of. And then we take it to the shredder.

It is symbolic. But it frees up our headspace. This has scientific backing.

It is the equivalent of taking 24,056 photos off your computer and putting them on a hard drive. Then the computer flies.

Anyway, I got a message on LinkedIn. I won‘t share the details but the essence.

She said she had done the clearing. And it helped her through her toughest week.

She knew a loved one was having his last days, and she had to do her big presentation that she had been working on for months. It gave the clarity to be present for both.

I admit I had a tear reading her note.

A win, of sorts.

As always, hope this was useful

Talk next weekend.

Have a good week.

David.

If you missed last weeks with half term and everything, here it is again.
